Fresh: The film is worth seeing, for its faces and its evocation -- not without melodrama, yet not without impact -- of a harsh but not hopeless slum life.
Fresh: That director Gavin Hood, who wrote the script from a novel by playwright Athol Fugard, could get you to care so much is a mark of the heart that went into making the film.
Fresh: It's a solid, earnest drama of moral redemption that places old cliches in an unfamiliar setting.
This is a great movie. I first saw this film in my film class and i was really moved by it great plot and great characters and great Acting. 5/5 stars
This is a weird movie… It never occurred to me as a 4-star, almost 5-star, movie while watching it - but it made such a strong impression that stuck with me the days to come. At times it seemed a little helpless, "where is this scene going? c'mon?" kinda, but the after all total is quite strong and emotional.
3 star during the watch, 4 after - I'm glad I saw it, that's for sure.
