About the Movie
Based on Camus' 1947 novel, a study of people's instinctive characters emerging during the passing of a deadly plague.
Excruciatingly Slow Meditation on Human Condition
This film is intelligent and well-done, but is INTERMINABLY slow. At only 30 minutes into the film, I found myself constantly staring at the clock, wondering when it would all end. Perhaps the near-malignant slowness was itself a commentary on the plague, or on the ennui of the human condition. Most of the action of the film takes place in the final ten minutes. The film is mostly about a feeling than about action. Like the plague bacterium itself, this film lies dormant most of the time.
