About the Movie

Paul Rudnick provides the script for the Scott Rudin-produced comedy Marci X, directed by Richard Benjamin. The new song "Shoot Ya' Teacha" by controversial hardcore rapper Dr. S. (short for Dr. Snatchcatcher, played by Damon Wayans) causes a public outcry. The stress causes a heart attack for the owner of the hardcore rap record label Felony Assault (played by director Benjamin). It's up to his stylishly sunny daughter Marci (Lisa Kudrow) to take over his business. She tries to rescue the record label by changing the negative image of Dr. S. in order to appeal to a youth-oriented crowd, which leads the pair into an unlikely romance. Actress Christine Baranski appears as a conservative senator who threatens to ban the rapper.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: This is the kind of comedy in which the characters are construction-paper cutouts whose abrupt changes of heart are dictated entirely by the preposterous plot and not by psychological or social reality. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Jul 29, 2014

Rotten: The term 'wildly uneven' doesn't come close to charting the peaks and valleys of Marci X. – Joe Leydon, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Director Benjamin doesn't really handle the material with the outrageous excess it deserves, with the result that the proceedings seem far too mild. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Sports woefully outmoded cultural punchlines. – Jon Caramanica, Village Voice, Aug 27, 2003

Easily One of the Worst Movies of All Time

I've walked out of two movies in my entire life and this was definitely the worse of the two. It's not funny, not entertaining, painful to watch at times (the concert scene made me want to claw my eyes out), and generally horrifying. Unless you're looking for the pefect movie to ruin your date at home, I recommend saving the $10 for something more appealing.

mildly entertaining...and that's kind of pushing it

I rented this movie a long while ago because I like Lisa Kudrow...this movie was incredibly boring and borderline funny. If you really want to see this movie, save a few dollars and just rent it. I can pretty much guarantee you won't want to see it a second time.

Let me say.....

OMG.....this movie was so funny, but its really not worth paying the money to buy the movie unless you like stupid comedy (like myself). If your not in the mood for a movie that will make you think and you just want to sit back, relax, and laugh you butt off ths is the moive for you.
