About the Movie
Serrano, a virtuoso at the art of blackmail, is dead. Plenty of people with skeletons in their closets are happy about it and Xavier Maréchal wouldn't exactly be upset either if it weren't for his friend Philippe admitting that he committed the murder. Indeed, Serrano's death was not an accident.
Handsome is what handsome does!
The great Alain Delon is in his prime and gives a tremendous performance. But sadly the movie hasn't aged very well since it deals with political corruption that might have been more relevant back in the 1970's ,furthermore the convoluted story about the inner working of the French bureaucracy has little appeal to the non French . The mystery itself is not very believable and too conveniently resolved at the end. It's still a good movie for Delon's fans. iTunes how about Mr.Klien?
Glad to find this film here, even if badly dubbed
A surprise to find Georges Lautner's leisurely paced but well-made political thriller-film noir here! Alain Delon and Maurice Ronet from PURPLE NOON reunite to play old military buddies who get embroiled in a murderous scandal involving a note-folder that has kept track of all the skeletons in the closet of French politicians. Witnesses and potential clues begin to be killed off as Delon investigates. I enjoyed it quite a bit, although unfortunately the soundtrack is badly dubbed and Philippe Sarde's amazing jazz score sounds tragically canned. Really should have offered the French audio & English subttile option. On the other hand, ithe visuals are showcased in a superbly clean HD transfer and I still recommend it to any fans of these French stars and cynical, '70s Eurocrime films.
