Fresh: If you're primed for the sudden shifts in tone, style, story and look, the payoff is one provocative and evocative film after another.
Fresh: As unreliable as the Academy Awards may be at every possible level, it's a relief to encounter the 2013 Oscar-nominated shorts ...
Fresh: While there are few genuine knockouts, the 2013 crop is an improvement over last year.
Fresh: There are three separate annual compilations of Oscar-nominated shorts, with the animation reel always more popular than the live-action and documentary offerings.
Too bad about the Animated collection
[Update: I previously noted that there was no info on the website. Now there is.] I look forward to purchasing these on iTunes each of the last few years. It appears there won't be an animated compilation available for sale, but each (I only see 4 so far) of the animated shorts is available individually. That's too bad. These are great. So are the docs (which I saw theatrically, knowing they never show up here -- also a shame). Enjoy the Oscars on Sunday!
What an amazing range of emotions one will experience with these films. Each one so successfully encapsulates true emotion, and shows strange and different lives in stunning fashion. I was extremely moved by these films, especially "Henry" and "Curfew", but honestly all 5 films hold their own and would impress any experienced viewer.
