From the Oscar®-winning team behind MAN ON WIRE comes the story of Nim, the chimpanzee who became the focus of a landmark 1970s experiment to show that an ape could learn to communicate with language if raised and nurtured like a human child. But as Nim's natural instincts take over and the humans around him fail to protect him, PROJECT NIM uncovers the unflinching and extraordinary journey of one animal thrust into human society.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: This haunting life story is an exquisite example of non-fiction filmmaking as full-bodied, emotionally complex drama.
Fresh: The chimp comes out of it well. Homo sapiens, of course, is found wanting.
Fresh: I was very moved by this film.
Fresh: As a cinema experience, Project Nim was never likely to reach the heights of Marsh's Man on Wire, but the eccentricities of his story made it well worth telling.
I think the reviews from rotten tomato pretty much hit the nail on the head on this one; you definitely become emotionally involved with Nim.
I would say skip the HD version because a lot of footage is shot in the 70s and 80s so it won't really matter.
This is a remarkably well made film. Be aware that it is very traumatizing. My young teen children are animal lovers and sensitive and this would be far too traumatizing for them. This is not a warm and cuddly animal story. It shows the harsh reality of animal treatment. Screen it first and make your own decision.
A truely revolutionizing documentary which brings to life the connections we can share with other Life. Mind Blowing.
