About the Movie

From executive producer James Cameron (Avatar) comes a thrilling underwater adventure based on true events. Master diver Frank McGuire leads a team—including his 17-year-old son—to explore the largest, most beautiful and least accessible cave system on Earth. But when a tropical storm cuts off their only escape route, the team must work together to find their way through an uncharted and dangerous underwater labyrinth to make it out alive. With time running out, can they survive, or will they be trapped forever?

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The director Alister Grierson, not grasping that bad dialogue is sometimes best delivered quietly, encourages his actors to shout and thrash about, and so they do, like fish out of water and performers out of their depth. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Feb 3, 2011

Rotten: Sometimes the sets look like, well, Styrofoam. So do the actors. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Feb 7, 2011

Rotten: Actually being stuck in a remote waterlogged grotto might be more tolerable than enduring this disaster of an adventure movie. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Feb 4, 2011

Rotten: "Sanctum" is a movie that tries to make you feel that there's this cool thing going on that everybody knows about except you. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Feb 4, 2011

must see eyes wide open

Not for those who's life has been spent sitting in a arm chair--you won't get it. But anyone who has lived on the edge outside the comfort and safety of home
will relate to natures awesome secrets and unforgivness to show.

Not worth it.

It's nicely photographed and well shot but that's about it. The script was stupid, the acting was bland and wooden, and the story isn't really anything new nor is the plot. This movie isn't worth your time I'd skip it.

This movie was great.. It is definitely a movie that will pull you through the emotions from sad to edge of your seat pissed off. It is based on actual events and seeing what this boy goes through in order to stay alive is absolutely unreal! Definitely worth watching.
