Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Slap Shot has a kind of vitality to it that overwhelms most of the questions relating to consistency of character and point of view.
Rotten: Slap Shot may have done a lot of fast skating and some solid body checking, but in the last period it makes a final costly slip -- and misses its goal.
Fresh: An unsually abrasive sporting drama from director Hill.
Fresh: There are still some nice touches of absurdist satirical wit hanging out along the sidelines, given extra bite by Dede Allen's superbly pacy editing.
Now you young bucks will know who the real Hanson Brothers are
This movie is a classic. Spidey99 I gather must have been born in 99 and doesnt understand the significance of this movie.
Best Sports Movie ever! EVER!
Simply put, this movie is a CLASSIC. Every hockey player knows this movie by heart and quotes it on a daily basis. There is no political correctness in this one, so if you are one of those uptight tools, I suggest you go elsewhere for some laughs. Who owns the Chiefs?
One of the all-time greats
A precursor to great sports comedies like Major League and much more quotable. Paul Newman's awesome portrayal of Reg Dunlap is very similar to the minor-leaguer the movie is widely credited to emmulate. HANRAHAN! It's 30 years old, but watchable every second of the day. Hey Walt, what are you doing? Makin' it look mean!
