From acclaimed and Academy Award-nominated director and writer David Mamet ("Hannibal," "The Untouchables") comes this taut action-thriller starring Val Kilmer ("Wonderland," "Red Planet") and Oscar-nominated William H. Macy ("Seabiscuit", TV's "Door To Door"). A special ops officer and his protégé are recruited to investigate the kidnapping of the president's daughter, but the deeper they dig into her disappearance, the more they uncover a dangerous conspiracy that goes up to the highest levels of the U.S. government. Also starring Derek Luke ("Biker Boyz," "Antwone Fisher"), Johnny Messner ("Tears of the Sun," "The Sweetest Thing"), Tia Texada (TV's "Third Watch," "Phone Booth") and Aaron Stanford ("X2: X-Men United," "25th Hour").

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Spartan is the same old stuff, but now it's been thoroughly Mametized, like a spray-on treatment you could spritz out of a can.
Fresh: The real violence, as is always the case with Mamet, lies not in the mayhem but in the thrusting rhythms of the dialogue.
Fresh: Both technically accomplished and moderately entertaining.
Fresh: Is Spartan a perfect, or even a great, movie? Probably not. But in its prickly irascibility and deeply unsettling intelligence, it makes for a very, very good one.
It's Mamet, Man
The Cadence is the thing. It's in the voice, the movements and everyone gets it. There are a few soft spots but you forget with the conviction of the prose. Val is great and i haven't seen him this good in awhile. Ed O'Neill, Tia Texada, and even Kristen Bell play there parts well. I agree there is some safety in the type of story leading to "spray-on" criticism, but Mamet is THE MAN and is able to make his outing fresh, full of life, and downright entertaining. Give me more (ie RED BELT!!!)
It's a load of rubbish, buy yourself a coke instead
5 mins into this pointless B movie I had suspicions that this was going to go nowhere.
30 mins into the movie and you'd think that the screen writer has ADT or something, as nothing seems to relate to anything, the characters are just, well, really bad and you begin to think why am I wasting my time bothering with this.
Later in the movie it's obvious either the screenwriter/director/executive producer had either gone on vacation, got bored themselves or really began to realize this was a BIG MISTAKE......
The critics reviews.... hah, they must have been paid handsomely for this one.
