15-year-old Oliver Tate (Craig Roberts of JANE EYRE) has two objectives: To lose his virginity before his next birthday, and to smother the flame between his mother (Sally Hawkins of NEVER LET ME GO, MADE IN DAGENHAM) and an ex-lover (Paddy Considine of THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM, IN AMERICA) who has reappeared in her life. Worried that his mom is having an affair, Oliver monitors his parents' sex life by charting the dimmer switch in their bedroom. Meanwhile, he attempts to woo his classmate, Jordana, a self-professed pyromaniac who supervises his journal writing - especially the bits about her. Based on Joe Dunthorne's acclaimed novel, Submarine is a captivating coming-of-age story with an offbeat edge.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: "Submarine'' has its own specific miseries and darkly funny vibe. It makes quirkiness briefly seem like a good thing again.
Fresh: Ayoade owes a debt to Wes Anderson, but the parents here are so beautifully written, and Hawkins and Taylor particularize them so well, that the movie manages to hold its own.
Fresh: An exercise in briny Welsh Weltzschmerz that tracks the inner and outer worlds of a confused teenage boy.
Fresh: For an unreliable narrator, Oliver's story is reliably entertaining.
This movie was very stiff humorous but had a bit of a tearie moment, & having Alex Turner do a soundtrack was genious!!:)
Everything from the music (courtesy of Alex Turner, the phenomenal frontman of Arctic Monkeys) to the cast, script, and setting is incomparably perfect. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie - most likely more than once. Be sure to give the soundtrack a listen to because honestly, I can't begin to describe it...
I really like this movie. It was different. Enjoyed it a lot.
