About the Movie

What if someone gave you a box containing a button that, if pushed, would bring you a million dollars…but simultaneously take the life of someone you don’t know? Would you do it? And what would be the consequences? The year is 1976. Norma Lewis is a teacher at a private high school and her husband, Arthur, is an engineer working at NASA. They are, by all accounts, an average couple living a normal life in the suburbs with their young son…until a mysterious man with a horribly disfigured face appears on their doorstep and presents Norma with a life-altering proposition: the box. With only 24 hours to make their choice, Norma and Arthur face an impossible moral dilemma. What they don’t realize is that no matter what they decide, terrifying consequences will have already been set in motion. They soon discover that the ramifications of this decision are beyond their control and extend far beyond their own fortune and fate.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Kelly has talent, but for his next movie, he might try coming down to earth and forgetting about the people who control the lightning. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Kelly, as he did in Donnie Darko, avoids obvious scare techniques. Instead, he makes the bizarre, the surreal, and the frightening emerge from normal reality. – David Denby, New Yorker, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Kelly treats what is essentially a Stanford University psychology experiment with inflated somberness. – Ann Hornaday, Washington Post, Oct 24, 2011

Fresh: Is it an odd film? Certainly. Will it creep you out more than it engages you? Probably. Should we be rewarding folks who are willing to step out of bounds and make us think? Definitely. – Laremy Legel,, Oct 24, 2011

Oh NOOOO! A box!! The horror!

Hmmm...where to begin? The confusing plot? The incredibly depressing ending? This movie was a total waste of my time! I LOVE movies A LOT! But this movie was just a huge ball of ICK. If you're really bored and have absolutely nothing else to do on this earth then go for it and watch this movie, but I promise this movie will make you wish you just stayed bored.

I'm just going to tell it like it is...

If you think a movie will be good because Cameron Diaz is in it...this movie is probably not for you.
If the ending of The Sixth Sense caught you off guard...this movie is probably not for you.
If your IQ falls below the 130-135 range...this movie is probably not for you.

Not for the masses

Although this movie didn't left a massive impression on me, I liked the way that it makes you think(no wonder it's no blockbuster) If you don't get it, it's alright you're in the majority.
In other words, If you are the type of guy who enjoys movies like mall cop or similar, this movie is not for you.
For people who liked The Box - see " Idiocracy " 2006. Although it's a whole different genre(comedy), you'll be shocked to see how it turns out to be one of the scariest movie of all time.
