Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Two American institutions have combined to put out a piece of entertainment that will delight movie audiences for years.
Rotten: The movie's plot does not quite hold all this pageantry together, but De Mille's scripters and actors enter into the thing in the proper flamboyant spirit.
Fresh: This is the circus with more entertainment, more thrills, more spangles and as much Big Top atmosphere as RB-B&B itself can offer. It's a smash certainty for high-wire grosses.
Rotten: It won best-picture Oscar for 1952, but God (De Mille's favorite walk-on, strangely absent here) only knows why.
It Is The Best!

The Greatest Show On Earth
This movie is amazing. I found out that the actors had to train for many months because they were performing all the stunts. There were no stunt doubles. And this was a real circus so the actors and filming crew had to follow the circus across the country. Again this movie is amazing. I hope everyone else likes it.
I figured I might as well write a review because there's only one, anyway. So anyway, great movie, definitely worth seeing. The acting is great! Betty Hutton and Gloria Grahame were amazing, as always. Cecil B. DeMille created another long movie, but you won't notice because you don't want it to end ever. This movie totally deserved it's Oscar, it's amazing. James Stewart put on such a magical performance and he was recovering from some sort of hospitalizing problem (I forget which). I swear to God, I didn't know that was Cornel Wilde, I could've sworn it was some French guy. The plot was interesting and the circus acts were amazing. Charlton Hueston probably put on the worst performance of all the actors, but he was convincing anyway. The movie is great, a definite must see. With great direction, a perfect plot, and entrancing performances, there isn't anything not to like!
