About the Movie
Mark Wahlberg stars as a man who takes his family on the run when a natural disaster threatens to end civilization. For years, the earth has been the victim of mankind's "progress," and the pollution has finally built to a point that causes a global backlash. An invisible neurotoxin is released into the air making the people in Philadelphia go crazy and kill themselves. The Happening is a paranoid thrill ride through this large-scale, cataclysmic environmental crisis that turns into a struggle by mankind to overcome nature.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Feeble gust of an environmental horror story.
Rotten: Shyamalan tries to give the events a scientific underpinning. But his logic is spotty, so what are meant to be eerie moments are not convincing.
Rotten: A patchy, uninspired eco-thriller whose R rating (a first for Shyamalan) looks more like a B.O. hindrance than an artistic boon.
Rotten: Shyamalan's such an eager recycler, grinding out the same ideas and images again and again. The man who showed such promise less than a decade ago has been leaving a diminishing creative footprint ever since.
M. Night Shyamalan's worst film yet!
This was supposed to be a good movie! But instead it is a huge disappointment. Its hard to tell if it was supposed to be a bad comedy, a horror movie, or just something thats plain old stupid... In my opinion it's stupid.
this was a great movie
This movie deserved way better reviews, I am a huge M Night fan and I love everything he does. For one I dont get what was wrong with the acting I thought it fine , and secondly the movie was very well made and had some really great jumpy moments. In my opinion I thought it was a really great film. Also, to all the people that gave this movie bad reviews: quit treating every movie like it should be made like the lord of the rings ( not saying its was a bad ), just try and have some fun with this movie, its a good movie.
After the joke that was "Lady in the Water", I thought that M. Night Shyamalan would bounce back with a scary, nasty thriller with "The Happening", a movie that looked interesting from the previews. Sadly, it was terrible. Bad acting, unintentional hilarity, and a horrid script ruined this movie. The worst part about it is that the movie showed premise from the start, but quickly fell apart as our one-dimensional characters were introduced. I'll admit, the movie was entertaining due to the humor, but that really wasn't why I saw this movie. My advice: avoid like the plague, unless there's no other comedies out at the moment.
