About the Movie

Six months. Six novels. Six members. The Jane Austen Book Club takes reading the classics to new heights of passion in this romantic comedy featuring an all-star cast. When five women and one man get together to discuss the English writer's beloved novels, they realize the heartaches of Emma, Mr. Darcy and the Bennet sisters are not so different from their own. Finding comfort, wit and wisdom from the pages and each other, they discover that, in matters of love, all they need to ask is: What would Jane do?

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The episodes roll by in smooth progression, and the talkiness has the round, impassioned tones of readers ignited by fiction. – Amy Biancolli, Houston Chronicle, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Leave it to the Godmother of Chick Lit to inspire the best chick picture in many an age. – Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel, May 13, 2009

Fresh: Unlike so many chick flicks that celebrate female solidarity as a concept without ever making us feel it, The Jane Austen Book Club is convincingly feminist in a nonpolitical way. – Terry Lawson, Detroit Free Press, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: The contrivance is horrible, the schmaltz unpardonable. – Anthony Quinn, Independent (UK), Jun 24, 2010

Amazing Movie

If you like Jane Austen books you will love this movie. The Jane Austen books were interwoven beautifully into the movie and it was a seemless transition from the books to the characters in the movie. Overall, a great movie to rent for a Friday night Chick flick or to make your signficant other watch with you.

This was a surprisingly good movie. I personally thought it was an original idea for a movie. Definitely a chick-flick, I think, but it was WONDERFUL!!
