About the Movie

Academy Award®-nominees Annette Bening and Julianne Moore star in this funny, smart and vibrant portrait of a modern American family. Nic (Bening) and Jules (Moore) are your average suburban couple raising their two teens, Joni (Mia Wasikowska) and Laser (Josh Hutcherson), in Southern California. But when the kids secretly track down their “donor dad,” Paul (Mark Ruffalo), an unexpected new chapter begins for everyone as family ties are defined, re-defined and then re-re-defined. Fall in love with the big-hearted comedy that critics are calling “one of the best films of the year!”

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Its emotional pull remains consistent to the end. – Rene Rodriguez, Miami Herald, Feb 25, 2011

Fresh: if it wasn't for the distractingly wall-to-wall indie soundtrack... and mildly cop-out ending, I'd be pushing this straight to the top end of our Best of 2010 list. – Charlie Lyne, Ultra Culture, Nov 14, 2010

Fresh: A light, lovingly handled tale about the difficulties of staying in love. – Catherine Bray, Film4, Nov 3, 2010

Fresh: The film joyfully allows us to embrace, rather than escape, the wonderful, awkward embarrassment of familial love. – Sophie Mayer, Sight and Sound, Jan 4, 2011

Customer Reviews

It's Ok...

This movie is getting good reviews purely because it's edgy, the film itself really isn't that great. At best, wait for the rental.

Just Another Affair Story

Silly me, I thought this movie was going to be about the kids, their relationships with their two moms, and finding their biological dad. So much for that thought. This was just another movie about a marriage hitting a bump and a stupid affair. So much potential here just thrown away. Very disappointing.

The Kids should escape....

The story of a Lesbian couple whose children get in touch with their "donor".
While the kids are great, the adults are really without any redeeming characteristics.
The trailer makes you believe this is a comedy, its not. Do lesbians really watch
gay, male, porn for excitement? Not recommended.
