Academy Award® winner Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws, The Goodbye Girl) stars with Emmy and Tony winner Blythe Danner (Meet the Fockers) and Oscar® nominee Bruce Dern (Coming Home) in this warmhearted tale of lost love and second chances. The year is 1912. Vowing to swear off women for good, curmudgeonly Seth Atkins (Dreyfuss) takes refuge tending a remote Cape Cod lighthouse. Then, a mysterious stranger (Tom Wisdom, Pirate Radio) literally washes up in Seth’s life, with a past full of secrets and a similar aversion to females. But the arrival of two beautiful, spirited women (Danner and Mamie Gummer) will test the men’s resolve – and send all four of them sailing into uncharted romantic waters!
A great movie that you can watch with your whole family. Loved it. My husband loved it too.
Thoroughly enjoyed this well-acted, light-hearted romantic story set on Cape Cod, Massachusetts in 1912. Dreyfuss does a superb job of depicting a crusty ol' sailor now turned lighthouse keeper. The plot is simple yet fun to watch unfold. Yes, predictable but the cast of actors give splendid performances that keeps the viewer engaged. The film is nicely weaved together through the craftsmenship of Daniel Adams' directing and screenplay writing. Though this film garnered little notice when it premiered in December of 2009, it will survive in the long run (by word of mouth) as a feel-good love story (actually, stories) because of its clarity of purpose (that love overcomes and endures) and the nostalgia of a lovely setting and simpler time.
Really Bad Good Actors
Don't be fooled like I was. This is a really awful, almost laughingly bad, movie with very good actors.
Save your money for something better--only wonder how in the world it got 4 stars!
