Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: The issues raised may make for some lively debate on the way home -- especially if it's foggy out.
Fresh: It's a horror movie of real conviction. It deserves to be a hit.
Fresh: The movie has plenty of payoff, especially in the exciting and nerve-wracking final hour. You can try guessing what will happen next, but you'll probably be wrong.
Rotten: A combination monster/disaster movie, it explores issues as fundamentally elusive as the nature of man, the existence of God and the purpose of religion, and its conclusions aren't going to leave anybody feeling too good about whatever they believe.
Best watched on a foggy day
Ranks up there with the finest of Stephen King’s works, this is a wonderful adaptation of his 1980 novella although the ending of this movie is somewhat astray from the book. Apart for the differences though I thought this was a wonderful movie both in the depth of the character portrayals (a classic trademark of Stephen King) as well as the scope of how the mind tries to find hope in a world that’s gone horribly wrong. A very eerie tale to say the least, best watched on a foggy day.
I think this is gonna be a classic! Keeps you guessing and wondering the whole way thru. I know there's alot of negative feedback on the ending, but all I can say is that I liked it because of it's "originality" I think it catches you off-gaurd, and is not the common horror flick these days! "You Be The Judge!" a must see! Worth the Rent, that's for sure! I own it.
No King Fan Here
While I have never been a fan of Stephen King I really enjoyed this thought provoking film. If you watch this as just a giant bug movie you will miss the point... it's not about the bugs it's about the people, how we deal with and judge each other. I know many hate the ending but any other ending would ruin the film. You need to end this with ambiguity, not knowing if your choices are right or wrong, sometimes it all depends on context. If you do watch the movie make sure you pay attention to details, remember faces, even just incidental ones.
