Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: How could a movie starring Hugh Laurie, Oliver Platt, Allison Janney and Catherine Keener go so wrong?
Rotten: Julian Farino ... [works] so hard to convince us of the Deep Inner Goodness of everyone involved.
Rotten: Flirting with farce, the film never gets out of comic first gear.
Rotten: "The Oranges" hits and misses at random.
Depicts all that is wrong with our culture. Adults willing to fracture a family for self gratitude, children growing up too fast and taking on more than they are capable of understanding. Stay away from this if you have any morals left.
This is the worst movie ever
Hugh Laurie couldn't act his way out of a paper bag! You can't even call them characters. There is not a single person on the screen of any interest at all. The narrator's character is totally non existent. It's like some said "Hey, let's point some cameras at some actors and have them read really crappy dialog!" There is the obligatory montage with Hugh Laurie and his love interest at a casino, then the beach while some insipid music plays in the background. NOTHING HAPPENS! Do not waste your money renting this!
I was excited when I found out that Hugh Laurie and Leighton Meester were teaming up again. I liked their chemistry on House M.D. Like the movie, their chemistry this time was lukewarm. There were times when the movie was really good and other times when it missed the mark. There were scenes that needed to be rewritten, but otherwise it was ok to watch. It has a star cast, which surprised me that it wasn't better.
