About the Movie

Written for the screen by Neil Simon, The Out-of-Towners is witty, uproarious movie that keeps moving at Simon's unusual frenetic pace. Incredible mishaps occur when a middle-aged Ohio couple fly to New York City for the husband's job interview. Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis are perfectly cast as the frustrated and overwhelmed duo. Their plane can't land; they are rerouted to Boston; their luggage disappears; and the hotel cancels their reservations. The list is endless, and Lemmon tries to retaliate by threatening everyone with a lawsuit.

Rotten: Because Simon is dealing with a place -- and a commonplace -- rather than people, it is only too easy to see the jokes coming long before they arrive. – Molly Haskell, Village Voice, Aug 31, 2012

Keep the classics coming please!!!

For anyone who has ever traveled, this is one of the all time funniest movies... the concept is often copied (think plains, trains, and automobiles) but the original is still one of the best. Lemmon is at the top of his game here and the movie has good pace, excellent comedic timing and common, but hilarious situations. Just buy it!

A great classic

I saw this in New York not long after it came out. It was great then, and it is great now.
