Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A fierce, fragmented, downbeat film.
Fresh: Penn can't be faulted for his work with the actors. Most of the featured players have only a scene or two, but they're indelible.
Fresh: This is one of Nicholson's finest performances and that's saying one hell of a lot.
Rotten: Ultimately, the payoffs just aren't there, either psychologically or dramatically.
This isn't a '50's crime drama. The synopsis doesn't even cover the subject of the film. Jack Nicholson is a cop, who on the very day he retires, pledges to a grieving mother that he will find the man who kidnapped and killed her small daughter. The film is a character study of a man who becomes obsessed with fulfilling that pledge.
Interesting film, terrible synopsis.
And neither John Malkovich nor Vanessa Redgrave are in this movie.
+1 on the synopsis
Okay movie. Could have been better.
Did person who wrote the synopsis even watch this film?
