About the Movie
A reluctant reunion of two estranged sisters. One is on the verge of marriage; the other is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Jenny has rejected her tumultuous family and cut off communication, seeking a more ordered life far from her roots in the Bronx. And she's almost ready to commit to her longtime fiancé when her sister Lucy - the personification of all that Jenny has been trying to flee - surprises her at a critical time. Lucy and Jenny's combustible reunion brings both of them to unforeseen places, shattering and reconstructing the worlds they have both carefully constructed.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: "Union Square" has the busy, hemmed-in talkiness of a theater piece, with too much forced to happen in too short a time. But it also has a lively, nervous energy and an expansive sympathy for the mismatched women at its heart.
Fresh: Propelled by a rangy, superbly colorful performance by Mira Sorvino, the film grabs hold of the viewer from the jump and snowballs toward a deftly moving and concise third act.
Rotten: Often feels like an acting exercise documented on video for teaching purposes-lots of unnecessary histrionics and ostentatious zooms, with both the story and the improv-like dialogue predicated on contrivances and glaring improbabilities.
Fresh: Savoca's ear for dialogue and a pair of electric lead performances give this souped-up one-act some life.
Savoca at her best
I loved her film Dogfight. It is great that Nancy Savoca is back. Union Square seems like a simple story at first glance. But Savoca expertly crafts a film with layers, humor, and heart.
Loved this movie! Sorvino and Blanchard were great together, and I loved the message of the importance of family, particularly sisterhood. Definitely check this movie out!
