Fosbury

Fosbury

The U.S. release of Parisian pop group Tahiti 80’s third album Fosbury comes with two additional tracks plus an exclusive EP containing three cover tunes and a Jaga Jazzist remix of the album’s “Changes” — all with their eclectic blend of Philly Soul orchestration, hip-hop beats, pop falsetto and modern electronica bleeps. There’s a warm wind optimism evoking the leisurely paradise of the group’s name swirling around these tracks; the weightlessness of the dance floor calls out to those looking for the perfect escape. The group can serve up smooth late night come-ons like ‘Something About You Girl” where they overshoot their ‘80s milieu with a moment of pure ‘70s recall (also done with the bonus cut “Give It Away,” a Chi-Lites cover). The acoustic ballad “Take Me Back” and a straight cover of the Turtles’ “Happy Together” prove they can survive without the hyperkinetic electronics, and the lush, manic swirl of “Big Day” and “Your Love Shines” make them sound like experienced drivers in a chaotic video game.
