A Bigger Piece of Sky

Part of the reason this album was considered a breakthrough for Keen is in the way that tunes like the greasy, grinding "Amarillo Highway" (a Terry Allen cover) represented the introduction of a rock 'n' roll flavour into his Texas country/folk amalgam. But the bigger reason is simply that it contained some of his best songwriting yet, whether it’s the classic story-song "Corpus Christi Bay", the bittersweet ballad "Paint the Town Beige" or the wry cowboy jazz of "Daddy Had a Buick".
