Scan the tracklist of this singles collection, and it’s a shock to realise The Byrds created this stunning output across just three years. They pioneered folk rock with the sublime chiming guitars and honeyed harmonies of “I’ll Feel a Whole Lot Better” and hit a psychedelic peak with the trippy jangle of “5D (Fifth Dimension)”. They even found time to squeeze in whimsical shuffles (“Mr. Spaceman”) and a sassy two-minute satire of fame (“So You Want to Be a Rock ’N’ Roll Star”).
