Description

Grand Master Chess Beginner Collection is a collection of very old and hard to find books written to help every chess enthusiast to strengthen their skills. It is a universal app so after you buy it you can read this titles on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

There are 4 titles currently available when you purchase this app:

1. THE BLUE BOOK OF CHESS - Teaching the Rudiments of the Game, and Giving an Analysis of All the Recognized Openings - by Howard Staunton, 1910

2. CHESS AND CHECKERS: THE WAY TO MASTERSHIP by Edward Lasker

3. CHESS FUNDAMENTALS José Raúl Capablanca 1921

4. CHESS STRATEGY by Edward Lasker, 1915

Howard Staunton was an English chess master who is generally regarded as having been the world's strongest player from 1843 to 1851. He promoted a chess set of clearly distinguishable pieces of standardised shape—the Staunton pattern—that is still the style required for competitions. His chess articles and books were widely read and encouraged the development of chess in the United Kingdom, and his Chess-Player's Handbook (1847) was a reference for decades. The chess openings the English Opening and Staunton Gambit were named for his advocacy of them.

José Raúl Capablanca y Graupera was a Cuban chess player who was world chess champion from 1921 to 1927. One of the greatest players of all time, he was renowned for his exceptional endgame skill and speed of play. Due to his achievements in the chess world, mastery over the board and his relatively simple style of play he was nicknamed the "Human Chess Machine".

Edward Lasker was a leading German-American chess and Go player. He was awarded the title of International Master of chess by FIDE. One of his famous quotes: "It has been said that man is distinguished from animal in that he buys more books than he can read. I should like to suggest that the inclusion of a few chess books would help to make the distinction unmistakable." – The Adventure of Chess

You can use our chess game app "Chess Expert" (or "Chess Expert HD" on an iPad) to setup each of these compositions and try to solve it. Or use "Chess Expert" to test the solutions from each of these books. "Chess Expert" features a very strong chess engine rated at over 2500 ELO. It's probably the strongest chess engine in the App Store.

If you want to further increase your game strength you can try our chess problem books in "Chess Expert Classics".
