About Dracma

The sounds of progressive British rock were imported to Spain by Barcelona-based quintet, Dracma. Formed in 1993 by keyboards/Grand piano player Jordi Amela, electric, classical and 12-string guitarist Jordi Prats and ex-Rara Avis drummer J.L. Pacheco, the band has steadily expanded its sphere of influence. Their self-produced debut album, Limits was released by Italian label, Mellow in early 1994, while their second outing, Fine Stormy Weather, was released by French label Musea two years later. Dracma experienced considerable growth before performing its first shows. The original trio practiced for a year before adding bassist/classical guitarist Jordi Plenas and Pedro J. Jimenez, who had previously played in Pacheco's band, Hamelin, as lead vocalist. With the departure of Pacheco in January 1994, his role was assumed by Eduardo Camblor. The former drummer for Medianoche, Camblor remained with the group until April 1996, when Rod Olivier, who had played with Plenas in Kaplan, replaced him. Dracma paid homage to its greatest influence when it recorded a version of "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" for a forthcoming multi-artist tribute album to British prog rock band, Genesis. ~ Craig Harris
