California-based emo quintet Finch had an unusual genesis as a Deftones tribute band, but soon developed its own sound by combining the heaviness of its main influence with pop-punk of the Jimmy Eat World/Blink 182 variety. After signing to Drive-Thru Records and selling large quantities of a debut EP, Finch grabbed a spot on the Warped Tour and expanded its fan base significantly. Subsequently, however, the band’s progressively experimental straddling of the emo/metal line alienated some followers in both camps, the result being that Finch broke up for two years, only to re-unite in 2008.
