Essential Albums
- While Tim Hardin's own songs are outnumbered by covers here, Bird on a Wire features some of his most moving vocal performances. His haunting, airborne take on the title track is easily the most powerful version of the much-covered Leonard Cohen tune. And Hardin's famously fluid phrasing is at its jazziest, even on a country song like "A Satisfied Mind" or on the John Lee Hooker blues "Hoboin'", making a strong case for him as one of the most gifted interpreters of his generation.

About Tim Hardin
Tim Hardin was a truly unique stylist who gained attention as part of the Greenwich Village-based singer/songwriter explosion of the mid-1960s. His jazzy phrasing, inscrutable lyrics, unusual chord progressions, and unconventional song structures set him miles apart from his folk-scene contemporaries. His songs were covered far and wide by countless artists, but Hardin himself was a troubled, drug-addicted soul who could never settle down personally or artistically, and mainstream success eluded him. He died of an overdose in 1980, but that didn't stop people from continuing to sing his uncommonly beautiful songs.
