About Saul Cosentino

Saúl Cosentino has played music from earliest memory. But, it wasn't until he had retired from a career as a commercial pilot for Argentine Airlines that he began to focus on music as more than a part-time thing. In the nearly two decades since, Cosentino has continued to build on the musical legacy of the late Argentinean accordionist and tango composer,Astor Piazzolla, with an updated hybrid that he calls, "new tango of Buenos Aires." Taught to play the piano by his mother, Cosentino fell in love with the accordion at a young age. Initially focusing on Italian music, he became enchanted by the tango after hearing Piazzolla's recording "Symphony of the Tango" in 1955. A master composer, Cosentino has won numerous awards for his song crafting. His tunes placed first at the Latin-American Song Festival in 1990 and the Panamerican Song Festival in 1997, while he received a prestigious Carlos Gardel Award in 1990. Cosentino's songs appeared on the soundtrack of the Argentinean film The Revelation in 1996. Multimedia artist Bianca Atwell performed his tune "Ultimatum" during a tour of Spain, while electronic duo Digitalcoya has been working on remixes of his compositions. ~ Craig Harris
