Nuclear proliferation remains one of the most pressing and important issues in international politics and security. There are an estimated 23,000 nuclear weapons in the world today, 22,000 of them belonging to the U.S. and Russia. If detonated, these weapons would cause the equivalent of about 150,00 Hiroshima bombs.
