Thoughtcrime is comprised of one high school multi-instrumentalist from New Hampshire, Zane. With the use of his many functioning and non-functioning instruments and toys, he creates a barely ambient array of sampled and performed noises. His album features many (not really) guest musicians, including family, friends, and strangers. Or not.
||Television||"I am hypnotized by the TV weekdays at 5:30. They wash my mind on Eastern Standard Time. You know my mind runs on commercial puns. Oh, I can't think for myself anymore..." Yeah, I can't help watching TV alot. Well I can, but I choose not to. This is about that.||26 3 2009||Free||View In iTunes|
||Camera||This whole album being a part of the RPM Challenge, it was overall fairly rushed, although this is the most noticeably incomplete song. I recorded both a vocal and drum track to go along with this song, but they both did not record for some reason, and the album was to be turned in in merely an hour, so I had to leave it be. I suppose it will remain unfinished. Ignore this song if possible.||25 3 2009||Free||View In iTunes|
||Toys||The instrument tracks were all recorded before I even attempted to sing this song, which was not a good idea as I cannot sing very well in the key of E major. Thus, this song does not exactly feature a good vocal part. "This indie song is not well done, it's not that great I know. I'm just going to make some noise with broken toys and maybe I'll eventually play it at a show. It has absolutely no meaning, no reason, or even any purpose at all. But if there's demand, I guess I will make up some CDs. I will buy some blank white CD-Rs and blank white Poly-Sleeves. These lyrics don't mean anything, so please don't think that they are secretly deep or anything like that."||25 3 2009||Free||View In iTunes|
||OCD||This song is about me having weird OCD-esque things. Most of the instruments were played by me, with the exception of the drums which were played by Isaac, some vocaling by Olivia, yelling and other stuff by Jacob, Erik, Nikki, Erika, Nihco, and occasionally Toby. Asymmetry, my worst enemy... You win, you have conquered me. I swore that I would not give in, but you have gotten the best of me. So once again, I will say that you win OCD. I can't even help myself from realigning some books on a shelf. It's somewhat hard to explain, but it's a physical pain that can only be fixed when I readjust some crooked display, and I assure you I don't mean to cause a fuss. I know it may sound absurd, but I give you my word that this is real...||25 3 2009||Free||View In iTunes|
||Dream||My friend Nihco and I found the piano and vibes sitting on the stage after school one day, and there happened to be some mics near both of them. The background noise is actually people who were sitting and talking in the hall, as we were too lazy to tell them to be quiet. I recorded the talking thing on the spot in just over five minutes. "(crazy dude talking) Excerpt from "Dream a Dream Tonight" from Yo! Gabba Gabba: Close your eyes, and sleep, and dream of happy things, like balloons floating on and on and on... Close your eyes, and dream a dream tonight. Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, happy thoughts. Dreams can take us near, and dreams can take us far. Dreams can fly away like birds and land on a star... Go to sleep."||12 3 2009||Free||View In iTunes|
||Apartment||The guitar and vocal tracks were recorded in the hallway of my apartment, to get that crazy huge reverb. Then I re-did everything else over the top. The lyrics were written in less than the time of the song itself, so don't expect...good. The ceiling drips and the floor is stained. Yes, everything's chipped, including the paint, and there is a so-called "ghetto mart" just a few feet away. I've got a view of muggings and such, and my room's above the vacuum store, but honestly I don't mind that much. Oh, this apartment... The lights have broke, so the hallways are dark, and a sneeze will carry so very far. A couple prongs are all I can ever find. Oh, this apartment...||12 3 2009||Free||View In iTunes|
||Phonecall||There was a lot more potential for this song at one point. I had actually written a full on song and was ready to record it with a story I had written for a phonecall answering machine over the top involving a mental patient, but I couldn't get a sample of the phone at good quality, so I had to reshape the music around something that would work with a royalty free archive.org phone call. This isn't very good. The story behind the phone call in this song is two people who created a fake torrent site in order to catch uploaders and such, but apparently they got hacked, so...yeah.||12 3 2009||Free||View In iTunes|
||French||I am awkward at speaking French. This song talks about it, and shows it. Good. I had to record the vocals on a computer mic, so they are pretty bad and rushed. "J'essaye de parler francais, mais il semble habituellement errone. Yes, I try to form sentences, and I guess I sort of can do it sometimes, but it just seems worthless."||12 3 2009||Free||View In iTunes|
||Rabbits||I played dulcimer on this song, which is pretty cool. I bought it for $15 from someone in Dover, and I am thankful of whoever they are to this day, because it is a pretty cool instrument. That's it. This song is about rabbits being annoying and me not being able to be mad at them. "I part with an old pair of headphones that has been defaced in several ways by these here creatures. Now why can't you be more sinister? Oh, come on, where's that menacing grin? I wish I could stay irate at these two caged little things, but their face just won't allow it. This problem could be fixed if they would just change their disposition, oh but I part with a broom, a case, even other people's property, where does it ever end???"||12 3 2009||Free||View In iTunes|
||Sarah||This one is about a person named Sarah, who is awesome. And stuff. This song is not as good as the person as it is for. Samples are from a thing on archive.org.||12 3 2009||Free||View In iTunes|
