Albumrecensie

Baaba Maal has long been known for his exciting live performances, and this well-recorded live show does a nice job of capturing his energy. Only one of the tunes here clocks in at under ten minutes and little of the time seems wasted, with the large band (with no less than eight percussionists) driving the singer in his remarkable performance. Of particular note is a guest appearance by Ernest Ranglin on the lovely "Koni."

Despite his parents' insistence that he become a lawyer, he grew up surrounded by music, absorbing both the traditional sounds of the region as well as American R&B and soul, later discovering jazz...
