This album for me remains the most heavy form of true Hard Rock in all its essence.
Pompous drums (by Cozy Powell R.I.P.), every hit is a hard one, each beat runs through your stomach...
Keyboards (by Tony Carey) allways present, but never in a poppy way, always supporting and adding to the mix.
Bass fills up any holes left that needs filling, but in a professional way, never as with p.e. speed metal where much becomes a blurr.
Guitars by Ritchie Blackmore... does he need any more introduction?? The man is simply one of the best rock-guitarists ever, although he lost me when he became a troubadour for life.. I see it as a loss...
And then the voice... did he ever get better than on this album?? Ronnie James Dio (R.I.P.) gives it all. Only few singers ever got the vocal reach he has. Be it low, be it high, he gets the notes without ever giving the feeling that it gives him any difficulty.

If I would have to explain anybody why I fell for HardRock, this would be the album I would choose, without ever fearing that there might be a faulty nummber on it.
This team-up is for me the best there has ever been, all good and best artists in their own way, and also form one of the best teams in music. Too bad (as always) that their relation did not last longer as it did.

Though this was one of the shortest albums I ever bought, there is no number that is less than GOOD.
Of course tracks like Stargazer and A Light In The Black have little peers... these numbers emphasise all I said about the album. Pompous, heavy, thrillers in their stories, and never boring, even for their length (which for those days was unseen)

Listen to it and eat it alive!!

Gevormd: 1974 op England

Genre: Rock

Jaren actief: '70s, '80s, '90s

The brainchild of former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, Rainbow quickly developed into one of the '70s most successful heavy metal bands behind charismatic front man Ronnie James Dio. Together, the duo would produce a string of acclaimed albums which are still considered classics of the genre. But the group would change their musical approach numerous times following the singer's departure, eventually confusing and alienating much of their audience. Releasing eight albums during it's decade...
