Versie 7.2.2

Good day, folks! The development team has been hard at work on a number of improvements to everyone’s favorite password manager. We recently began a new practice of setting aside 20% of our normal development time to focus solely on bugs and quality-of-life improvements. Every item you see in today’s update was reported by you, our wonderful customers. Thank you all for your feedback, we truly appreciate it.

## New
• 1Password now requires you type your Master Password any time you add or remove fingerprints. {apple-issues#690}

## Improved
• 1Password will now prompt you to enable the Safari App Extension if it is not enabled when Safari becomes active.
• The item detail section provides better accessibility for VoiceOver users.
• Detection of reused passwords in Watchtower has been improved. {apple-issues#2031}
• Added an option to disable Markdown in Secure Notes. You can find this setting in Preferences > General. {apple-issues#460}
• Favorites can now be sorted by the usual methods (Date Created, Date Modified, etc). {apple-issues#1499}
• Improved unlock speed for users who have a large number of vaults.
• Search Options can now search based on the presence of a 2FA code. {apple-issues#1816}
• Hitting the Return key in an empty Master Password field will now prompt for Touch ID if it is available. {apple-issues#1864}
• Command-Shift-C will now always copy an item’s password. This restores behavior that existed prior to the 1Password 7 update. {apple-issues#1429}
• OmniFocus 3 has been added to the list of applications for which 1Password mini will show suggested items. (Shout out to our friends in Seattle, congrats on the release!)

## Fixed
• Corrected the VoiceOver text available in empty categories, making access faster and more fluid than before.
• Fixed an issue that could cause 1Password to slow down over time. {apple-issues#2365}
• Fixed a layout issue that resulted in the Browser preferences being laid out incorrectly. {apple-issues#2016}
• Fixed an issue where search terms would be ignored when searching using the onepassword://extension/search/ URL. {apple-issues#2417}
• Fixed an issue that caused 1Password to come to the foreground when copying items from an anchored window. {apple-issues#2348}
• Fixed an issue that prevented the Copy button from working in Preferences > Accounts. {apple-issues#2336}
• Fixed an issue that would result in the Touch ID settings being hidden if you were in a state that required you to supply your Master Password to reauthorize Touch ID.
• Fixed issue where if the app was hidden, opening 1Password mini would also open the main window. {apple-issues#1157}
• Fixed a rare issue that would cause vault edits to fail. {apple-issues#2272}
• Fixed an issue where items with removed custom templates would not be displayed. {apple-issues#1377}
• You can (finally) search through your notes using the Command-F keyboard shortcut again.
• Fixed an issue where Safari 11 users would receive a deluge of alerts telling them to upgrade to Safari 12.
• The lock keyboard shortcut now updates when the preference changes. {apple-issues#2249}
• Fixed an issue where a two-factor authentication prompt might not be shown when 1Password is locked. {apple-issues#2271}

## Security
• Resolved an issue that allowed minimized item detail windows to appear unlocked when the application was locked. {apple-issues#2475}
• Downloaded document files are no longer decrypted until viewed in the 1Password user interface. {apple-issues#2419}
• 1Password no longer shows the vault selector in the Touch Bar while locked. {apple-issues#2285}

Yeah, it‘s me ,

Stay away! It’s a protection racket.

I paid good money for a previous 1password version, I believe it was € 45,99 or something. Even though this was not quite a cheap app, I have used it as a trusted depository for all my confidential data.

Now it seems AgileBits is set to coax it’s users into this version, which not only seems convoluted beyond repair with a bad case of featuritis, it is also based upon a monthly subscription model. This is not acceptible. Using a monthly subscription model for this kind of application looks more like a protection racket than anything else. “Nice confidential data you have here, it would be a shame if anything happened to it…”

I will transfer my data to another vault and will no longer support this app.

Sorry to hear you feel that way. It is entirely possible to use 1Password 7 with a license, but must be done so by purchasing from within the app downloaded from us (not the App Store). We wrote about the reasoning for this here: If you have further questions or concers, or want to learn about why we now also offer 1Password as a subscription membership service please reach out to us directly at Thanks! Another application to let go after years of use

Pity that after so many years of using 1Password it's moved to the subscription-based model as well. It's a nice rationalization that the developers need to sustan the development. I did not find enough significant changes to update from version 6.8.9. Sionce Safari h as it's own password manager which is the most I use 1Password, once the version 6 stops working that will be the end.

Hi Robert! If you prefer to use a standalone license, you can purchase a license for the Mac and Windows apps separately and use those. To purchase the Mac one, upgrade to 1Password 7 and you'll be prompted to purchase a license: Thank you! Daniel, AgileBits

A rather objectionable hike in price

Let’s do the math here: roughly 4 years ago I paid ca. €45,99. That’s already a lot of money for a single app. More so provided the ever-growing number of alternatives (I must admit, only a few of these match the 1Password’s feature set and its elegant and streamlined interface). €45,99 in 4 years makes it, roughly, to an €11,50 a year. An app like this is surely worth €11,50 a year, will you agree? Suppose, it is.

…Now, fast forward to today: 1Password 7 turns out to be subscription-based. Subscription-based solely! “Fine!" - one would think and reach out for his / her wallet. But wait: it doesn't cost €11,50 (or in the ballpark) a year anymore. Now it costs €39,99 a year! €34,99 if you decide to pay in anuual instalments! That’s roughly 3 times as expensive as its predecessor. That’s quite an “upgrade", AgileBits! If anything, rather an abrupt way of losing tens of thousands of clients instantly! Whether it pays off financially - or not - I can but guess. What it certainly does help with - is losing market share - that’s a no-brainer. If that is what you’re aiming for - congratulations!

One thing companies like AgileBits, DayOne and an ever-burgening slew of others (including Fantastical) clearly fail to comprehend - is that the users of your apps aren’t multimillionaires. Nevermind their beautiful respectibve interfaces, their polished UXes and the commendable usability of the said apps. Their crux, at least, is the statistically-average person who can't afford to pay €100 a month worth of subscription-based apps. That’s rougly 15% of the average Joe’s monthy salary. Stop aping Adobe, for Goodness’ sake! Adobe can get away with it for a few reasons (though, even so - they may well get overtaken by competitors like Serif with their vastly more attractive pricing protocol within a few years).

Dear AgileBits, at least do have the decorum to keep allowing an export of the entire 1Password database in a range of formats for use in any of the counterparts. Or - alternatively - give Me a subscription-based model for under €10 a year - and you will have Me a loyal user for decennia to come. “Me” - meaning, virtually every extant 1Password user, plus tens of thousands of new would-be clients.

Thanks for the feedback! We do actually offer standalone licenses through 1Password 7 for Mac when downloaded directly from our website. We wrote about why this isn't available in the App Store here: While I understand your concern about pricing we've always thought of 1Password as a premium offering, and the price reflects that. We'd hope that folks searching for a premium service would agree that 1Password is worth the asking price. If you don't it is possible to export your data into portable formats: We want folks to use 1Password because they feel it is the best solution for them, not because they feel locked in. If you'd like to discuss any of this further please feel free to reach out to us directly at Thanks! Ben Woodruff, 1Password
