Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth is a new science-fiction-themed entry into the award-winning Civilization series. Set in the future, global events have destabilized the world leading to a collapse of modern society, a new world order and an uncertain future for humanity. As the human race struggles to recover, the re-developed nations focus their resources on deep space travel to chart a new beginning for mankind.
As part of an expedition sent to find a home beyond Earth, you will write the next chapter for humanity as you lead your people into a new frontier and create a new civilization in space. Explore and colonize an alien planet, research new technologies, amass mighty armies, build incredible Wonders and shape the face of your new world. As you embark on your journey you must make critical decisions. From your choice of sponsor and the make-up of your colony, to the ultimate path you choose for your civilization, every decision opens up new possibilities.

Voor maanden spelplezier
Ik heb de OSX app basisversie van dit spel gekocht, samen met de uitbreiding ‘exoplanets map pack’. Soms is er een aanbieding dat je de basisversie kan kopen voor maar 15 euro (normaal 44 euro). Het is een complex en verslavend spel met ongekend veel mogelijkheden en strategische beslissingen. Je hebt wel een krachtige Mac nodig om alle grafische opties aan te zetten. Op mijn iMac 27” late 2013 moest ik alle opties naar minimaal zetten, bij maximale beeldschermresolutie, omdat ander de koeling flink ging loeien. Maar zelfs op minimaal ziet het spel er prachtig uit en is het stabiel zonder vast te lopen. Als ik nog meer variaties en uitdagingen zoek dan is er ook nog de uitbreiding ‘rising tide’. Maar voorlopig ben ik daar nog lang niet aan toe …
Cool game but lacks a bit of depth
It’s a nice game, lots of fun! Runs very smooth on my basic/low-end MacBook Air. The new sci-fi setting is quite an interesting spin on the Civ series. The only downside is that it feel quite 'shallow' compared to the previous games like Civ5. There’s limited choice in factions and the civilisations themselves aren’t that convincing or unique and come without a storyline, scenario’s or campaign missions. It simply lacks ‘lore’ of any kind to really get you stuck in. Also because the history/time is not really progressing like in the other Civ games. But it’s very fun to play overal and interesting new features like the "orbital layer" add new depth to the gameplay. I would recommend it but I’m hoping for an expansion or DLC soon to make it more complete.
Werkt met Macbook Air (mid 2013)
Spel werkt prima (+250 ronden) op een MacBook Air (13-inch, medio 2013, 1,3GHz Intel Core i5, 4Gb). Met de laagste instelling voor graphics en een beetje wachttijd als de andere fracties aan de beurt zijn, is het wel te doen. Het systeem wordt wel warm en de ventilator begint heftig te blazen. Ik heb niet gekeken hoe snel de batterij leegtrekt, gewoon op netstroom. Het spel is inderdaad niet te vergelijken met Alpha Centauri. Jammer dan. Als op zichzelf staand spel is het best wel leuk.
