Onmisbare albums
- In een bont boeket is er altijd een bloem die het meest opvalt. In de jazz van Jonas Gwangwa is dat de trombone, want met dat instrument leverde de Zuid-Afrikaan onmisbare bijdragen aan de jazzscene van zijn land. Niet dat het op Flowers Of The Nation (2001) ontbreekt aan andere smaakmakers, zoals de altsax en toetsen van Bheki Mseleku en gastvocalisten als Pinise Saul. Samen maken ze opgewekte, poppy jazz die de veerkracht van de regenboognatie onderlijnt, vooral op anti-apartheidsongs als het titelnummer en ‘Freedom for Some’.
