Shifting from the acoustic environment of Chain of Days, Norwegian jazz vocalist Silje Nergaard embraces a more electric sound on For You a Thousand Times. African percussion (from Sidiki Camara) on the opening “It’s Gonna Rain” shows her eclectic influences, while Andreas Ulvo’s lush, enveloping vintage keyboard sounds hint at pop and modern R&B throughout. Nergaard’s voice is sure and crystal clear, just right for this moody and melodic set, and trumpeter Mathias Eick and saxophonist Håkon Kornstad burrow into the songs and enrich them.
