Album Review

An exciting new reggae voice with a promising future. On this exceptional debut, Aaron Silk, younger brother of late reggae legend Garnett Silk, keeps the family name alive and kicking, with a lot of help from producers Mikey Chung and Floyd Smith. He slow-starts the CD with a sweet ballad mix, then explodes into "Babylon Falling," a tour de force accented by a stuttering trumpet. There's not a misstep among the 14 tracks. Silk's strong, earthy tenor is effective whether the material is hard or soft: "Coming Home" is reflective, but "Bless I Oh Jah," "Survival Thing," and "Zion High" display a deep-rooted, hard-hitting social agenda. Chung and Smith employ exciting female backing vocals on "Old Love," and Silk is outstanding as usual.
