In the early '80s, when pop music was choking in a cloud of its own hairspray, Marshall Crenshaw produced an album of simple rock 'n' roll played the old fashioned way - on guitar, bass and drums. Pulling from the Beatles, Buddy Holly, the Everlys, Motown and anything else that he could pick up on his AM radio, Crenshaw spun his favorite records into something fresh and familiar all at once. The success of "Someday, Someway" has damned him with the one-hit-wonder label, but the remaining songs on this album (almost all of which equal his hit single) prove that Marshall Crenshaw remains one of pop music's best-kept secrets.
