Despite the alter egos, dense mysticism and cosmic imagery, Natasha Khan’s second record feels like something of a studied step towards accessibility. “Daniel”—with its propulsive percussion and grand, stormy atmospherics—is a case in point but Khan, playing a litany of instruments ranging from guitar to harmonium, challenges herself by tackling everything from jerky electronica (the stunning “Pearl’s Dream”) to off-kilter breakbeat (“Glass”) to further escape the shadow of a certain ethereal pop forbear. Two Suns is the sound of an artist running up her own hill.
