Probably the best jazzROCK-album ever!

"Spectrum" were and will be regarded as one of the most fortunate moments in the history of fusion-music, regarding jazz/rock. At the time, jazz-purist wouldn't even speak of this but the public proved otherwise. The most outstanding on this album is the use of the late Deep Purple-guitarist Tommy Bolin, a swedish guitarist that died after an accident just after his solo-carrier was on the verge, and the czech-borned keyboardist Jan Hammer (yes, Miami Vice-theme). Released in 1973, when jazzrock was still in progress with such outstanding bands as Weather Report, Return To Forever and more - when Miles Davis as the great ideologist seemed to simmer on his own 'til the '80s, "Spectrum" was the biggest buzz of them all. And after 35 years, I'd say that nothing grooves as "Snoopy's Search/Red Baron". Troughout my carrier as a quizmaster with friends and associates, in late nights after a party and such, I still have to experience one that aren't stunned AND wants a copy. For many years, copying was the only option until internet was delievered to revive such vintage as "Spectrum", which is the most representing and rock-oriented of Cobham's carrier. It's the entire album that truly shows us the potential and well-intended crossover-music that rocks your house.

Generally acclaimed as fusion's greatest drummer, Billy Cobham's explosive technique powered some of the genre's most important early recordings -- including groundbreaking efforts by Miles Davis and the Mahavishnu Orchestra -- before he became an accomplished bandleader in his own right. At his best, Cobham harnessed his amazing dexterity into thundering, high-octane hybrids of jazz complexity and rock & roll aggression. He was capable of subtler, funkier grooves on the one hand, and awe-inspiring...
