Reggae Goodies, Vol. 1

Beginning in the ‘70s, Lloyd “Bullwackie” Barnes infused Jamaican dub reggae with the grit and smog befitting his surroundings in the Bronx. This album collects some of the finest offerings Barnes released on his Wackies label. A synth haze surrounds the teen harmonies of the Love Joys’ “I Belong to You”, while a slinky street-funk groove underpins Wayne Jarrett’s “African Woman” and the slowly throbbing “Capture Land” finds Stranger Cole conveying the distinct sensation of being a stranger in a strange land.
