Album Review

Smooth jazz guitarist Lee Ritenour gets the "best-of" treatment on this GRP compilation. While longtime fans will most likely already have these tracks, curious listeners may find it a nice place to start. Featuring a cross section of tracks Ritenour recorded during the '90s and early '00s, including "A Little Bumpin'," "Harlequin," and "Wes Bound," the only disappointment is that no new or unreleased cuts were included. However, Ritenour is a consummate jazz-pop melodicist and is still well represented, despite the inadequacies of this collection.

10 points to Lee!

The Very Best of Lee Ritenour is a collection of what I call some of the best Fusion/Jazz music. If you like Pat Metheny's more funked music, you'll love this album! Many jazz-guitarists tend to get in their freejazz-mode a little too often; Lee doesn't! This album has it all, and every instrument is used with perfection. From "A Little Bumpin'", Lee Ritenour takes you for a musical ride, and the ride finishes with some of his best work: Rio Funk! If you like Pat Metheny's album "Letter from Home" or Chick Corea in general, you must by this album! Lee Ritenour gets 10 points!
