Album Review

A famous album and a smash success, I Want to Be Happy Cha Chas probably can be blamed as much as any Grand Award LP for all the Command records to follow. Actually, I Want to Be Happy Cha Chas is less offensive. The percussion and channel separation is not yet pushed to extremes, and the organ duplicates that of the Prado outfit. ("Patricia" and "Guaglione" are covered.) Latin fans may despise North American tunes that were adapted to the cha cha and cheesily arranged, but it is certainly a classic album of its kind.

Enoch Light was a popular bandleader of the '40s and '50s who is best known for his Persuasive Percussion and Provocative Percussion albums of the mid-'50s, which were some of the first albums to exploit the capabilities of stereo recording and the use of using 35mm film as a recording method instead of tape.
