About Cathedral

The British band Cathedral are one of the primary artists of the doom metal genre. Formed in the late 1980s when founding member Lee Dorrian left seminal grindcore band Napalm Death, Cathedral seemingly took their initial musical cues almost exclusively from Black Sabbath and their American counterparts, Pentagram. Working a dark, sludgy style of metal, as opposed to embracing the speed and thrash styles of the day, Cathedral would go on to develop a massive, ominously powerful sound. The band continued to record and perform into the new millennium and are also considered one of the forefathers of doom's stoner-metal offshoot that emerged in the '90s and blossomed in the early 2000s.
