About Llwybr Llaethog

Taking an eclectic approach to industrial funk, Llwybr Llaethog helped usher in the post-punk era of the late '80s. Comprised of hardcore punk anarchists, the Wales-based band incorporated elements of acid house, hip-hop, rap, reggae, dub, and African rhythms. In his liner notes to their 1991 album Mewn Dyb, Richard Boon, the former editor of the Rough Trade Catalogue, wrote "If you put Adrian Sherwood, On-U Sound System, Mark Stewart & the Maffia, Cabaret Voltaire, Grandmaster Flash, Laibach, Test Department and the Clash all together, it might sound like this." The music press critically acclaimed Llwybr Llaethog's hard-edged sound. While Melody Maker described their music as industrial housey sampling, scratching stuff with dancey beats, and bouts of that dub thang," Music Week/U.K. wrote "their sample-heavy dance groove is sharp enough to get anyone dancing." Llwybr Llaethog features John Griffiths (drums, vocals, scratching, samples), Pete Millward (tin whistle, synthesizer), Ben Bentham (bass, percussion), and Kevs Ford (guitar, keyboards, banjo, trumpet, and vocals). ~ Craig Harris
