Originally the duo of rappers XXXTentacion and Ski Mask the Slump God, Members Only expanded from a side project to a full-on collective as both rappers' solo work grew in scope and influence. As the collective has grown, their signature sound has become one marked by aggression, distortion, and an overall metallic approach to rap, embodied on mixtapes like 2017's Members Only, Vol. 3. Florida rappers XXXTentacion and Ski Mask the Slump God met when both were teenagers doing time in a juvenile detention center. The duo released Members Only, Vol. 1 in 2015 as a two-man mixtape, but in the coming years they expanded the group to include Fukkit, Wifisfuneral, Bass Santana, Kid Trunks, Bhris, Flyboy Tarantino, and many others. The second volume of their collective mixtape, 2015's Members Only, Vol. 2, marked this lineup change. By the time of 2017's increasingly intense Members Only, Vol. 3, the group now included Craig Xen, Robb Bank$, Cooliecut, and others, and they were experimenting with mixing nu-metal influences in with their angry rap sound. XXXTentacion's 2018 murder changed the dynamic of the crew greatly, and founding member Ski Mask the Slump God left the collective the next year, as did Craig Xen and Cooliecut. Members Only, Vol. 4 arrived in January 2019 on what would have been XXXTentacion's 21st birthday. The album debuted at number 18 on the Billboard charts. ~ Fred Thomas
