About Shallow
Stoke, England's Shallow somehow slipped through the cracks of the British stoner rock movement of the late '90s -- even though the band possessed a strong live presence, displayed a unique alternative rock flavor to its accomplished, groove-laden songwriting, and was signed to the scene's most specialized label, Rise Above. Singer/guitarist Tony Inskip, guitarist Danny Unnet, bassist Phil Brough, and drummer Rod Ryse first united in 1996 and, after a string of demos and independent EP releases, inked a deal with Cathedral mastermind Lee Dorrian's aforementioned Rise Above for the release of 2000's 16 Sunsets in 24 Hours. Embraced by critics but ignored by consumers, the album went absolutely nowhere and, now desperate to distance itself from the fast-dwindling stoner rock crowd, the group changed its name to the Last Drop a year later, then made a comeback with 2002's Where Were You Living a Year from Now.
