About Tone Damli

Tone Damli Aaberge is a Norwegian pop singer who rose to fame in 2005 on the television talent show Idol: Jakten På En Superstjerne and made her solo album debut later in the year with Bliss. Born on April 12, 1988, in Sogndal, Norway, she is based in Oslo and cites musical influences that include Jeff Buckley, Radka Toneff, Joni Mitchell, Sidsel Endresen, and Norah Jones. In 2005 Aaberge was the second-place runner-up on the third season of Idol: Jakten På En Superstjerne, losing to Jorun Stiansen in the final episode. Upon signing a major-label deal with EMI in the aftermath of her second-place Idol finish, she made her recording debut later in the year with "The Bliss Song," the lead single from her solo album debut, Bliss, an English-language effort that reached number 14 on the Norwegian albums chart. "Somewhere Soft to Land" was released as the follow-up single. In 2006 Aaberge returned to prime-time television, finishing in third place on the second season of Dancing with the Stars. Her second album, Sweet Fever (2007), subsequently proved more popular than her first, reaching the Top Ten and spawning the singles "Fever" (also a Top Ten hit) and "Young and Foolish." Aaberge's steadily growing success continued with her third full-length effort, I Know (2009), which peaked at number three on the albums chart and spawned a pair of Top Five hit singles ("Butterflies," "I Know"). Moreover, Aaberge was the second-place runner-up in the Norwegian finals for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009 with "Butterflies," finishing behind Alexander Rybak. ~ Jason Birchmeier
