Early indications are good...

This is the first outing with new singer Eric Gronwall and he has huge shoes to fill. Former HEAT vocalist Kenny Leckremo was a rare commodity insofar as he was an incredible singer, both in the studio and in the live situation. HEAT's last album Freedom Rock was a terrific showcase for both Kenny and the band and it was a tragedy that such a good piece of work should coincide with his departure. Having said that, and despite that album's depth and maturity, it suffered from what has to be one of the singularly worst drum productions I have ever heard committed to tape - in any musical genre. I'm not sure what input 'Crash' had to the recording process but had I been him, I would have demanded a refund.

Address the Nation is a new album with a new singer and has a far better production - drums and all. From the opening track it rocks along at a fair pace with some real crowd pleasers. The sound is reminiscent of Swedish band Treat's last album Coup de Grace which is a HUGE compliment given their pedigree. Eric Gronwall is going to surprise a lot of people who rubbished him at the outset - me included. I was put off by his Billy Idol looks and shrill voice but it was never really a fair comparison while he was trying to sing songs written by Kenny. HEAT are still growing and I think that this album will also grow and once fans accept a new voice and a new look they will come to love it. HEAT have once again confirmed that whatever that elusive gene is that the Scandinavian rock musicians seem to have, they have in spades. Bring it on.

Founded in 2007 in Upplands Väsby, the band initially consisted of Kenny Leckremo (vocals), Dave Dalone (guitar), Eric Rivers (guitar), Jona Tee (keyboards), Jimmy Jay (bass), and Crash (drums). After signing a recording deal with the label StormVox, the band made its full-length debut...
